Follow the Money! I Mean the Text!

For years, I've dealt with assessing contentious legislation through a simple expedient:

Go to the actual text of the proposed/current law. It's easy enough to do these days - a quick search usually turns up a pdf or plaintext of the bill. If it's a national bill, Thomas takes care of that.

Here is the relevant sections of the Virginia bill (the sections dealing with abortion - it's a mixed bill).

Then, the full text (sections that pertain to abortion shown below, along with my comments about that section).

§ 18.2-73. When abortion lawful during second trimester of pregnancy.

Notwithstanding any of the provisions of § 18.2-71 and in addition to the provisions of § 18.2-72, it shall be lawful for any physician licensed by the Board of Medicine to practice medicine and surgery, to terminate or attempt to terminate a human pregnancy or aid or assist in the termination of a human pregnancy by performing an abortion or causing a miscarriage on any woman during the second trimester of pregnancy and prior to the third trimester of pregnancy provided such procedure is performed in a hospital licensed by the State Department of Health or operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.

OK, first major concern. Abortions during the second trimester are more complicated - the uterus is more apt to tear, bleeding is a bigger concern than in earlier abortions, and, when medical attention is needed, time is critical. This provision is likely in there for several reasons: the physician does not have privileges at a nearby hospital, the cost to the not-a-mother would be less, and it does eliminate oversight by other doctors who might question why the procedure was performed so late, or even whether it was truly the decision of the pregnant woman.

§ 18.2-74. When abortion or termination of pregnancy lawful after second trimester of pregnancy.

Notwithstanding any of the provisions of § 18.2-71 and in addition to the provisions of §§ 18.2-72 and 18.2-73, it shall be lawful for any physician licensed by the Board of Medicine to practice medicine and surgery to terminate or attempt to terminate a human pregnancy or aid or assist in the termination of a human pregnancy by performing an abortion or causing a miscarriage on any woman in a stage of pregnancy subsequent to the second trimester, provided that the following conditions are met:

(a) 1. Said operation is performed in a hospital licensed by the Virginia State Department of Health or operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.

(b) 2. The physician and two consulting physicians certify certifies and so enter enters in the hospital record of the woman, that in theirthe physician's medical opinion, based upon their the physician's best clinical judgment, the continuation of the pregnancy is likely to result in the death of the woman or substantially and irremediably impair the mental or physical health of the woman.

Taking away the need to get 2 other doctors on board with the procedure means that the abortion providers needn't justify their actions, using reasonable evidence and arguments.

The part "or impair the mental or physical health of the women" gives very wide latitude. No longer must that impairment be substantial or irremediable (not likely to change). 

You're sad about the pregnancy? Abort.

You're queasy and not feeling your best? Abort.

(c) 3. Measures for life support for the product of such abortion or miscarriage must shall be available and utilized if there is any clearly visible evidence of viability.

No longer will the doctor be required to try to keep the kid alive (those late abortions that result in living children are SUCH a disappointment to everyone involved). You can just bet the people present at that procedure will NOT see any "clearly visible evidence of viability".

§ 18.2-76. Informed written consent required.

A. Before performing any abortion or inducing any miscarriage or terminating a pregnancy as provided in § 18.2-72, 18.2-73, or 18.2-74, the physician shall obtain the informed written consent of the pregnant woman. However, if the woman has been adjudicated incapacitated by any court of competent jurisdiction or if the physician knows or has good reason to believe that such woman is incapacitated as adjudicated by a court of competent jurisdiction, then only after permission is given in writing by a parent, guardian, committee, or other person standing in loco parentis to the woman, may the physician perform the abortion or otherwise terminate the pregnancy.

In other words, God help you if you have some intellectual or emotional impairment, however brief. You can lose your "right to choose" to a "parent, guardian, committee, or other person standing in loco parentis to the woman".

B. At least 24 hours before the performance of an abortion, a qualified medical professional trained in sonography and working under the supervision of a physician licensed in the Commonwealth shall perform fetal transabdominal ultrasound imaging on the patient undergoing the abortion for the purpose of determining gestational age. If the pregnant woman lives at least 100 miles from the facility where the abortion is to be performed, the fetal ultrasound imaging shall be performed at least two hours before the abortion. The ultrasound image shall contain the dimensions of the fetus and accurately portray the presence of external members and internal organs of the fetus, if present or viewable. Determination of gestational age shall be based upon measurement of the fetus in a manner consistent with standard medical practice in the community for determining gestational age. When only the gestational sac is visible during ultrasound imaging, gestational age may be based upon measurement of the gestational sac. If gestational age cannot be determined by a transabdominal ultrasound, then the patient undergoing the abortion shall be verbally offered other ultrasound imaging to determine gestational age, which she may refuse. A print of the ultrasound image shall be made to document the measurements that have been taken to determine the gestational age of the fetus.

Goodbye to transabdominal (NOT transvaginal) ultrasounds. They are FAR superior to various measurements that are external (basically, feeling the uterus from the outside, and making an educated guess). The time requirements? That gives the woman time to make an INFORMED decision, rather than an emotional, hurried consent.

The provisions of this subsection shall not apply if the woman seeking an abortion is the victim of rape or incest, if the incident was reported to law-enforcement authorities. Nothing herein shall preclude the physician from using any ultrasound imaging that he considers to be medically appropriate pursuant to the standard medical practice in the community.

C. The qualified medical professional performing fetal ultrasound imaging pursuant to subsection B shall verbally offer the woman an opportunity to view the ultrasound image, receive a printed copy of the ultrasound image and hear the fetal heart tones pursuant to standard medical practice in the community, and shall obtain from the woman written certification that this opportunity was offered and whether or not it was accepted and, if applicable, verification that the pregnant woman lives at least 100 miles from the facility where the abortion is to be performed. A printed copy of the ultrasound image shall be maintained in the woman's medical record at the facility where the abortion is to be performed for the longer of (i) seven years or (ii) the extent required by applicable federal or state law.

D. For purposes of this section:

"Informed written consent" means the knowing and voluntary written consent to abortion by a pregnant woman of any age, without undue inducement or any element of force, fraud, deceit, duress, or other form of constraint or coercion by the physician who is to perform the abortion or his agent. The basic information to effect such consent, as required by this subsection, shall be provided by telephone or in person to the woman at least 24 hours before the abortion by the physician who is to perform the abortion, by a referring physician, or by a licensed professional or practical nurse working under the direct supervision of either the physician who is to perform the abortion or the referring physician; however, the information in subdivision 5 may be provided instead by a licensed health-care professional working under the direct supervision of either the physician who is to perform the abortion or the referring physician. This basic information shall include:

1. A full, reasonable and comprehensible medical explanation of the nature, benefits, and risks of and alternatives to the proposed procedures or protocols to be followed in her particular case;

2. An instruction that the woman may withdraw her consent at any time prior to the performance of the procedure;

3. An offer for the woman to speak with the physician who is to perform the abortion so that he may answer any questions that the woman may have and provide further information concerning the procedures and protocols;

4. A statement of the probable gestational age of the fetus at the time the abortion is to be performed and that fetal ultrasound imaging shall be performed prior to the abortion to confirm the gestational age; and

5. An offer to review the printed materials described in subsection F. If the woman chooses to review such materials, they shall be provided to her in a respectful and understandable manner, without prejudice and intended to give the woman the opportunity to make an informed choice and shall be provided to her at least 24 hours before the abortion or mailed to her at least 72 hours before the abortion by first-class mail or, if the woman requests, by certified mail, restricted delivery. This offer for the woman to review the material shall advise her of the following: (i) the Department of Health publishes printed materials that describe the unborn child and list agencies that offer alternatives to abortion; (ii) medical assistance benefits may be available for prenatal care, childbirth and neonatal care, and that more detailed information on the availability of such assistance is contained in the printed materials published by the Department; (iii) the father of the unborn child is liable to assist in the support of her child, even in instances where he has offered to pay for the abortion, that assistance in the collection of such support is available, and that more detailed information on the availability of such assistance is contained in the printed materials published by the Department; (iv) she has the right to review the materials printed by the Department and that copies will be provided to her free of charge if she chooses to review them; and (v) a statewide list of public and private agencies and services that provide ultrasound imaging and auscultation of fetal heart tone services free of charge. Where the woman has advised that the pregnancy is the result of a rape, the information in clause (iii) may be omitted.

Informed consent? NOT happening. When women are given full information, SOME of them do change their mind. The intent of this provision, since struck from the bill, is to slow down the rush to abort.

Realistically, many women's first thought is - Get RID of IT! The opportunity to think about it - without pressure - is one that should be available. No one should rush into a life-changing decision without time to process what this will mean, years down the road.

The information required by this subsection may be provided by telephone or in person.

E. The physician need not obtain the informed written consent of the woman when the abortion is to be performed pursuant to a medical emergency or spontaneous miscarriage. "Medical emergency" means any condition which, on the basis of the physician's good faith clinical judgment, so complicates the medical condition of a pregnant woman as to necessitate the immediate abortion of her pregnancy to avert her death or for which a delay will create a serious risk of substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function.

F. On or before October 1, 2001, the Department of Health shall publish, in English and in each language which is the primary language of two percent or more of the population of the Commonwealth, the following printed materials in such a way as to ensure that the information is easily comprehensible:

1. Geographically indexed materials designed to inform the woman of public and private agencies and services available to assist a woman through pregnancy, upon childbirth and while the child is dependent, including, but not limited to, information on services relating to (i) adoption as a positive alternative, (ii) information relative to counseling services, benefits, financial assistance, medical care and contact persons or groups, (iii) paternity establishment and child support enforcement, (iv) child development, (v) child rearing and stress management, (vi) pediatric and maternal health care, and (vii) public and private agencies and services that provide ultrasound imaging and auscultation of fetal heart tone services free of charge. The materials shall include a comprehensive list of the names and telephone numbers of the agencies, or, at the option of the Department of Health, printed materials including a toll-free, 24-hour-a-day telephone number which may be called to obtain, orally, such a list and description of agencies in the locality of the caller and of the services they offer;

2. Materials designed to inform the woman of the probable anatomical and physiological characteristics of the human fetus at two-week gestational increments from the time when a woman can be known to be pregnant to full term, including any relevant information on the possibility of the fetus's survival and pictures or drawings representing the development of the human fetus at two-week gestational increments. Such pictures or drawings shall contain the dimensions of the fetus and shall be realistic and appropriate for the stage of pregnancy depicted. The materials shall be objective, nonjudgmental and designed to convey only accurate scientific information about the human fetus at the various gestational ages; and

3. Materials containing objective information describing the methods of abortion procedures commonly employed, the medical risks commonly associated with each such procedure, the possible detrimental psychological effects of abortion, and the medical risks commonly associated with carrying a child to term.

The Department of Health shall make these materials available at each local health department and, upon request, to any person or entity, in reasonable numbers and without cost to the requesting party.

G. Any physician who fails to comply with the provisions of this section shall be subject to a $2,500 civil penalty.

§ 32.1-127. Regulations.

A. The regulations promulgated by the Board to carry out the provisions of this article shall be in substantial conformity to the standards of health, hygiene, sanitation, construction and safety as established and recognized by medical and health care professionals and by specialists in matters of public health and safety, including health and safety standards established under provisions of Title XVIII and Title XIX of the Social Security Act, and to the provisions of Article 2 (§ 32.1-138 et seq.).

B. Such regulations:

1. Shall include minimum standards for (i) the construction and maintenance of hospitals, nursing homes and certified nursing facilities to ensure the environmental protection and the life safety of its patients, employees, and the public; (ii) the operation, staffing and equipping of hospitals, nursing homes and certified nursing facilities; (iii) qualifications and training of staff of hospitals, nursing homes and certified nursing facilities, except those professionals licensed or certified by the Department of Health Professions; (iv) conditions under which a hospital or nursing home may provide medical and nursing services to patients in their places of residence; and (v) policies related to infection prevention, disaster preparedness, and facility security of hospitals, nursing homes, and certified nursing facilities. For purposes of this paragraph, facilities in which five or more first trimester abortions per month are performed shall be classified as a category of "hospital";

Now, the article where I found the link to the full text is pro-abortion. She cites several physicians on the necessity of this procedure, late in the pregnancy, and is - Disingenuous? Dishonest? about the reasons why someone might choose late-pregnancy abortion.

Dr. Beverly Gray, an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University, has previously told Refinery29 medical complications are often the reason why pregnancies are terminated after 20 weeks of gestation.

"Many of these women are faced with pregnancies complicated by severe birth defects that can only be diagnosed at this stage of pregnancy. Other women are diagnosed with medical complications, such as cancer, where pregnancy can put their life at risk," she said. "Many teenagers don’t realize they are pregnant until the second trimester and often seek care later, especially if they are hesitant to disclose the news to their family. Because abortion after 20 weeks is more rare, there are fewer ob-gyn’s who provide this care, making it logistically difficult to find a doctor, which can also create delays."
While explaining the HB2491 measure, Northam also explained from a medical perspective what it is like for women with nonviable pregnancies to go into labor. "The infant would be delivered; the infant would be kept comfortable; the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desire, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother," he said.

Some charts, and a link to the place where I found them. It's worth reading the explanation of these laws/regulations, as it's quite different than suggested by the pro-aborts who sweepingly refer to the MANY countries in which abortion beyond the 1st trimester hunky-dory.

     It was a brilliant speech. President Trump hit all the right notes. But it must be remembered that the opposition does not share his attitude; it is entirely partisan and focused on power for itself. These are people, owing to the steady devolution of our political class over the century past, who are interested in nothing but their own power and perquisites. The good of the country doesn't even blip their radars.

     They must go, one and all. Let there be no "safe districts." No matter how many years a district has been dominated by Democrats, they can be ousted — and they must be. (The same goes for the Establishment Republicans who give the president lip service while maneuvering in secret to thwart him.) The successful continuation of the greatest experiment in freedom in all of human history demands it.

I checked my weight this morning, and I'm done 16 pounds since Christmas - most of it in the last 3 weeks.

The app that I'm tracking it all with is Stupid, Simple Keto. It's on my phone, handy, and the paid version - less than $20 - also lets you scan foods. Very important to do in the supermarket, BEFORE you bring food into the house.

My knees feel MUCH better, and my asthma has calmed down.

Having Trouble Starting Work, Because...

• The Ralph (Democrat) Northam debacle. Now, his Lt. Gov. may be having issues relating to #MeToo assault! Haven't had so much excitement in years. Sigh. Remember when wearing blackface wan't no big thang?
• Yes, I know that Big Brother has his eyes on us all, but - this site writes about the potential for satellites to save lives in weather emergencies.
• Mocking your competitor for closing on Sunday seems not to be a good marketing strategy.
• Remember when interviewing the candidates for judicial appointments USED to be about discerning whether they were qualified? Good times, good times. Nice to see that the Leftists are even-handed in attempted character assassination.

I've also been working really hard on improving my health. I've been doing Keto, which has allowed me to lose the extra fluids that had been accumulating in my legs. That, in turn, took the excess stress off my joints.

It's been a huge difference in how I feel. This morning, I had sliced corned beef (made yesterday in the Instant Pot, and just falling apart in tenderness), eggs, and with 1.0 oz of sliced Harvarti Cheese with Garlic. Delicious, and only 1.16 g of carbs.

I found that pork rinds are incredible. I'd tried them before, but hated them. The light dawned when I realized that what I hated was the barbeque flavor. Plain rinds are WONDERFUL, and give me a crunchy protein and fat carrier system, other than bread.

2nd Week of Keto

Still going surprisingly well. I'm a long-time carb lover, whose girth had gotten way beyond the 'sort of OK' point. I needed to do something.

I checked around, and found that a Keto diet would accomplish several things:

• Lose weight (OK, for the science-minded, actually mass)
• Decrease water retention - a problem due to periodic use of steroids for asthma issues
• Eliminate my carb cravings that had torpedoed other diet efforts

Boy, did it! Until today, I had no carb cravings. Even when I did start sniffing around carb-y snacks, I quickly was able to find a substitute - cheese strips. It worked.

I'm able to eat a whole lot of things:

• Meats
• Cheeses
• Non-starchy veggies
• Bacon
• Ham
• Sausage
• Olives
• Hummus (in moderation)
• Pork rinds - never liked them before - it turns out that I hated the barbeque flavor of the ones I sampled previously. Plain pork rinds are delish - AND a great scoop for various protein-laden stuff

Tomorrow, I'm going to track down an easy recipe for Bulletproof Coffee - devotees swear bythe high-fat snack drink.

NOT a good idea, this fad of Dads dressing up in womanly clothes. Many children 'try out' the dress of the opposite sex. It's common, and, for those not encouraged by Feminist Nazi Parents to do it on a regular basis, it's short-lived. Generally, by the end of pre-school, a kid's sexual identity is confirmed as the same as his/her biological, DNA-matching sex.

What kid doesn't love rubbing the satin edging of his favorite blanket? Or stroking a silky blouse? So, a kid's attraction to soft, touchable fabrics is at least PART of the attraction to his sister's dress-up clothing.

Not a deep-seated, innate desire to be a female.

But, no. Just, no, to the idea of "Precious Dad" in female regalia - even if it's Pretend Fairy Queen. That just leads to prolonging the time of gender confusion.

Leftist Tactics - Part 1

I was talking to someone younger, and he asked (not angry, just curious): "Why do you hate the Leftists so much?"

I responded with a few short paragraphs about Soviet incursions into other countries, those in the USA that collaborated with them, and the dismal effect that allowing Leftists in k12 education had on learning. Really, I could have provided a lot more evidence, just from having lived through the 2nd half of the 20th century.

The Criminal Department of "Justice"

I'm somewhat aware of most of these, but had forgotten (or never known) of others.

It's when you see the complete history of Mueller's abuses of the "Justice" system, that you realize we've been living in tyranny for a LONG time.

I think we (bloggers and other alternative media) have an obligation to make time to sound the alarm. We need to regularly post re-caps of prior offenses, crimes, and abuses of power, from the time of Bill Clinton onward - INCLUDING GW Bush.

Younger voters won't know of these. They need to see the long history of offenses laid out, in detail, to understand WHY the old geezers and geezettes are angry at what has happened to their country.

If they are 21 now, they were only 10 when BO took over. Their knowledge of Bush is filtered by the heavy propaganda that was around since they were TWO!

They know NOTHING of BJC and HRC, nor of the sleazy deals they made, and the lies they told. What they know is filtered - primarily by Leftists.

So, education is # 1.

The Rebellion Triangle

You may have heard of the Slavery Triangle - from Africa, to the Caribbean, to America. And, back again.

Uprisings by the working classes in those countries have been going on longer than the Media and the Leftist Establishment would like you to know about. The Yellow Jackets Revolt is the latest in a long series of incidents in those 3 countries, and may be the one that sets off the Global Open Rebellion Against the Leftists.

I was a kid when a lot of earlier rebellions happened - in Africa and much of Asia. The thing is, even then, the revolts spread virally.

It's even more likely now, with the easy spread of videos and organizing tools on social media. The more the Left pushes back, the harder their opponents will respond. The only thing that can stop them now is access to weapons.

Even without guns, the YJs can do a lot of damage, which is happening right now. You will notice that you have NOT generally seen these scenes of violence on TV. I'm not sure which end of the feed is censoring the news - the French, or the US media.

But, censorship is no excuse. These videos are widely available online. If the Leftist Media WANTED this to get out, it would.

As for America, about the only thing stopping our Patriotic Opposition from doing the same is Trump. Who is, after all, a compromiser and a relative centrist. He has kept America from not-so Civil War, by giving people some hope that all is not lost.

God help the Left if Trump doesn't win in 2020. It could be the last time we see our country intact.

I found so many news clips, tv, radio, newspaper, etc when I googled it, that I figured everyone knew and had formed an opinion.

But with the current general inability to pay attention for more than 30 seconds anymore (unless it really upsets you), I figured the occasional reminder couldn't hurt.

As well, we now have the subversion about the lies that were supposedly told in rigging a poll (OMG) by the right. But doesn't the left do that continually?

Again, I'm thinking this one may have been a set up to open the door to investigation?

     A lot of us in the Right are looking forward to President Trump’s next Supreme Court appointment, which will probably cement a conservative majority on the Court for at least two decades. But I’m looking forward to it out of a kind of hope some might find peculiar.

     Imagine that the appointee is Amy Coney Barrett, recently installed on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Judge Barrett is a Catholic, and apparently a serious one. (Sad to say, serious Catholics are a declining demographic in these United States.) Having seen Brian Buescher abused by the Democrats over his Catholicism, I’m hoping for exchanges such as the following at Judge Barrett’s confirmation hearing:

Sen. Harris: Judge Barrett, what is your opinion of the decision in Roe v. Wade?
Judge Barrett: It was an outrage. Clearly wrongly decided.
Sen. Harris: So you would vote to overturn that decision?
Judge Barrett: Given the opportunity? I certainly would.
Sen. Harris: How can you sit there and advocate the repeal of a woman’s right to choose?
Judge Barrett: Abortion is murder. If there’s a right to life, there can be no right to murder.
Sen. Harris: I’m appalled that you can consider yourself fit for the highest court in America.
Judge Barrett: I’m appalled that you, who openly defend the murder of innocent children, have a seat in the U.S. Senate.
Sen. Harris: How dare you!
Judge Barrett: Why not? You were never going to vote to confirm me, so why shouldn’t I say what I think?

     I’d buy a Pay-Per-View to see that. Maybe it’s unlikely, but still...!

Quickies: The State Of The Union Address

     He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in case of disagreement between them, with respect to the time of adjournment, he may adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper; he shall receive ambassadors and other public ministers; he shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed, and shall commission all the officers of the United States. [Constitution of the United States, Article II, Section 3]

     The president’s duties, as indicated by the citation above, do include informing Congress about “the state of the union.” However, the relevant clause does not specify how that duty is to be performed: neither how often, nor where, nor by what means. Moreover, the “tradition” of a public State Of The Union Address, delivered in person and orally to a joint session of Congress, is far younger than most people believe: proto-fascist Woodrow Wilson began the “tradition” in 1913.

     Thus, Nancy Pelosi cannot “cancel” this presidential duty, as has been suggested by some commentators. President Trump can simply select an alternate means of conveying the information to Congress that he believes Congress should receive.

     The presidential duty of informing Congress about the state of the union derives from several characteristics of the early United States:

• News relevant to the entire nation took several weeks to circulate, rather than being instantaneous;
• Sessions of Congress were far shorter then than now, typically only a few weeks per year;
• A Representative or Senator had to make a difficult overland journey to attend a session;
• The president was the only federal official whose official duties were continuous.

     Today a formal State Of The Union Address is a relic, something that could easily be disposed of with no adverse consequences. Presidents use it mainly for televised publicity, self-congratulation, and to whip up support for their personal legislative agendas. There would be a lot less Sturm und Drang about it were presidents to return to the Nineteenth Century practice of submitting a written summary to Congress and letting it go at that.

     Mr. President: How about doing it via an email? You have an email-address list of all those clowns on Capitol Hill, don’t you? Just a thought, mind you.

This drives me nuts.

Other than the Indigenous Americans - and, by that, I mean those who immigrated to the land now known as the USA long before the more recent invasions by Norsemen, Europeans, Spanish, Africans, and Asians - all are what the PC call immigrants.

By that, they mean that you, or your ancestors, are present in this country quasi-illegally. Not the most recent immigrants/undocumented Americans, of course. THEY have a RIGHT to be here.

But, you, whose families have lived here for generations - you really should feel unworthy to be here.

Right.

I'm an Old-School American. I'm fine with some special assistance to people new to this country - help with English language acquisition, adjustment to the culture and law. That's for those who actually made the trip. By the time the first Native Americans show up in those families, that help should be less needed.

That acculturation, which ALL Americans have had to manage, is part of what makes us a country, rather than a loose confederation of tribes.

One major factor limiting that adjustment is the growing propensity of recent immigrants to marry someone from the "Old Country". This slows both cultural adjustment and language fluency.

Frankly, if someone wants to marry a non-American, they have several choices:

• Go to that country, marry them, and wait until the normal immigration process, with background checks and waits is complete. Return with them.
• Wait until they get an IMMIGRATION visa - not a visitor's visa, nor a student visa, nor any other kind. Then, marry them.
• Go to their country to live - permanently

No more using marriage to expedite the immigration process. It's both dishonest (many, if not most, of the marriages are shams), counter to public interest, and retards the normal acculturation process.

While I'm at it, I also favor cancelling refugee status for those under it who travel to that country to visit relatives. If it's safe enough to visit, it's safe enough for you to return - permanently.

But I am a 40 fanboy.

I look at my 380, which I carry when I want a smaller package. It works much better than you may have been led to believe. Proven fact, just make sure your shot is in place.

I look at my 9's, same generic warning. Good round, good effectiveness, aim carefully and you win.

I look at my 45's, and I know it will do its job. Get it in, and it's done. Most of the time, check my body and that's what you'll find.

BUT! Just look at the 40. I'm sitting here, looking at a stack of mags loaded with these. And they're so pretty. Bigger than the 9, faster than the 45, something about it just sings to me.

Would I like a full honk 10mm? Uhm, yeah. BUT! Again, is this 40 the ultimate compromise? More rounds, same mag, more horsepower than either of the others? 9/45? I tend to think so.

I was a Combat Arms Technician for a priority of my military career. I learned to read the numbers, understand them for the sake of my family/property.

Something about this round sings to me for a PDW.

What you carry/trust is up to you. 380 will do, and do quite well, 9mm is pretty sweet, all things considered. 45 is well trusted the world over. Why is the 40 ridiculed? I researched, and it does it all, and it does it well.

• Trans-gressions - can cost you a job/career
• De-platforming
• Aggressive use of government commissions and bureaucracies to squelch dissenters and put fear into average people, who haven't the money to fight them.  Obama was aggressive in extending beyond the law to pursue 'criminals' who wouldn't conform to his administration's norms. Trump seems to be willing to abide by the state's decisions.
• Use of the courts as an extension of the Leftist agenda
• 24/7365 media propaganda - this is NOT a new thing
• Manufacturing of 'consensus' - when WE use the word consensus, we mean that we agree on the overall policy/plan, with some minor differences. When THEY use the word consensus, it means something else entirely. My first introduction to the technique was in schools where I taught. I saw manufactured pseudo-consensus crop up, over and over again, using that method.
• Encoding rules/policies/laws that are then used to hammer out dissent. If you don't read VoxDay, you're missing a treat. He's not afraid to oppose the majority. His books on SJW's and how to fight them are well worth the cost.

On a related note, the National Review has a piece on the possible (some say likely) effect of the recent elections on Gun Rights. At times, you might be tempted to relax, as a court decision has decisively affirmed those rights.

Don't.

The anti-gun forces will just re-group, and launch another attack on those rights, from another angle. Truly, we have to be ever-vigilant and watchful to keep the Forces of Darkness and Tyranny away.

Demography is Destiny?

To a certain extent, yes. Mark Steyn writes about the impossible situation of China, who has created a culture that prefers one-child families. Such a culture will create adults that are comfortable with a solitary life. They've grown up with both mother and father working; the majority of their social interactions will be with classmates (largely of the same, or near, age), paid care-givers, and a few older relatives, all doting on the sole person who will pass on their genes - or not.

That's not a culture friendly to creating larger families - and, when I was young, who would have ever considered a two-child family as "larger"?

In less than a century, China has morphed from a culture in which the bride's family had to pony up a substantial dowry, to one in which even the plainest, dullest girl can have her choice of attractive would-be grooms.

Other than using their surplus men, who can never create a Chinese family, as the bulwark of an increasingly aggressive military, what can China do?

This connection between population changes and political upheaval is not a new phenomenon.

The French Revolution was, in part, precipitated by the dramatic increase in population during the 18th century. During that same time period, the price of consumer goods, such as bread, had increased dramatically.

The urban population had their wages held down by the competition from the swelling population. A few bad years in the crop production was all that was needed to jack up talk of revolution.

To a certain extent, the fervor for revolt was amped up by the Americans' success in overthrowing the government. But the biggest part of that resentment of the nobility was DRIVEN BY THEIR OWN ACTIONS (today's Progressive Elite might want to take note):

Like the higher clergy, the wealthy nobles of the Old Regime, the second estate, were increasingly unpopular. Although less than 2 percent of the population, they held about 20 percent of the land. They had virtual exemption from taxation and monopolized army commissions and appointments to high ecclesiastical office.

At the top were the hereditary nobles—a few descended from royalty or from feudal lords of the Middle Ages but more from families ennobled within the past two or three centuries.      As Recep Tayyip Erdogan once said, there is no “moderate” Islam. And now Rashida Tlaib, the newly elected Muslim Congressvermin from Michigan, has confirmed that verdict:

     Tlaib deleted the tweet swiftly...but not swiftly enough to prevent the Internet, with its inexhaustible memory, from capturing it.

     Rashida Tlaib is plainly anti-American. The Michiganders who put her in office are equally anti-American. Islam is anti-American, which is why Muslims were forbidden to immigrate to the United States under the terms of the 1952 McCarran-Walter Immigration and Nationality Act. And the rest of the country needs to know it.

     I shall repeat myself:

     No further immigration of Muslims can be permitted.
     Every Muslim in the U.S. must be expelled.
     All mosques must be demolished.

     Wake up, America...before you wake up dead.

Why No Wall, DEMOCRATS?

     The old gag that “You can tell when a politician is lying because his lips move” has a lot of truth to it.

     You can also tell when a politician is growing desperate. The desperate politician won’t stand his ground. He keeps changing his reasons for being for or against whatever issue is most prominent in political discourse. You can see this right now in the Democrats’ attempt to thwart the border wall.

     First, they claimed it wouldn’t work. Shortly after that it would be “too expensive,” indicating that it would work. A little bit later it was derided as “unnecessary,” which suggests that it might not be too expensive after all. Then came the denunciations of a wall as “racist,” which implies that a wall would be necessary, affordable, and effective. Today the Democrats are denouncing the wall as “immoral.” From that we can infer that it wouldn’t be racist at all. But what would make it immoral? No one will say.

     The public wants the wall. We elected President Trump largely for that reason. The Border Patrol wants the wall, plus additional measures to buttress its effect. Other nations that have erected physical barriers on their borders have reaped large benefits. Israel is perhaps the best example.

     But the Democrats are adamant that there shall be no wall. They’re willing to “go to the wall” to prevent it.

     I claim that the jury is in on this issue: the Democrats are against the wall because President Trump and a solid majority of the Americans polled on the subject do want it.

     Among other things it would complement the wall on Mexico’s southern border. Think about that.

Drug Legalization? I'm On the Fence

In part because, as a public school teacher, I know what legalization will bring. The dealers will lose legal-age customers. Oh, Noes! What's an enterprising Scumbag to do?

Move down in age, and target the younger ones - who will NOT be able to partake harmlessly without penalty. You're not cleaning up the problem, you're just moving it to a new demographic.

He may go a little far with the punishments. But, they have to be made severe enough that the prospect of being caught is a deterrent.

No, it's not victimless. The poor kids that grow up in a house with an addict are some of the most wretched victims. Society hasn't the guts to pull them out of there, except for a few. By the time the social workers stop falling for the tearful "I'm going to change my ways, don't take my kids!" line, the kids have been damaged by their parents' crap, and are less likely to be adoptable.

What I think?

Pull them out the first time for 6 months. Return is based on both a clean urine/blood sample AND a job. Not school - a job.

The second time, put them up for adoption. All parental rights severed for good. Do NOT let the grandparents take them - in many cases, they're the ones whose failed parenting contributed to their kid's screwups. With that threat, grandparents will work harder to keep that kid straight.

This all started when Elite, monied, connected parents found their kids were drug users. They could not bring themselves to cut them off from support if they continued using, nor to allow them to face the legal consequences of their acts.

So, they started this 'victimless' idea. They argued for leniency in the courts, publicly-paid-for rehab centers (more like hospitals, really, with amenities and soft-spoken people to tell the addict that it wasn't his fault), and misdemeanor status for first offenses (and further offenses), or 'only a user, not a dealer' offenders.

It largely worked - for them. They kept their kid out of the system, managed to use their money to deal with the health, legal, and addiction problems, and often managed to get little Courtney or Kurt back on track eventually.

For the less wealthy, less connected, it was a disaster. For them, for their families, for their neighborhood. They used in public, had to deal to afford their own drugs, and screwed up their own, formerly stable, but poor, neighborhoods. Multiple generations were screwed up, intellectually, academically, culturally, morally, and religiously. Those are the kids that are scoring at the bottom of the scale, often turning to drugs themselves, and often sexually exploited by the lowlifes coming and going from their homes, or others in their neighborhood who took advantage of their parentless situation.

Today's addicts? More of them are now driven by doctor-facilitated pain meds, then refusal to prescribe more, because "you'll get addicted'.

Get addicted? They ARE addicted. And, it's the medical establishment, AND the drug companies that profited from their addictions, that has a responsibility - morally and legally - to clean up the mess they made.

So.

One year of serious addiction treatment for any addict that wants it, including clearing up their legal messes, as much as can be done.

After that carrot, the stick. jail time - 2-5 years, NOT to be forgone because of expensive lawyers or another round of treatment. Yes, they will have a record. After 5 years of clean living on the outside, they can apply to have it wiped out, and restore their voting rights, ability to work around kids, etc.

That 'clean living' thing? Includes alcohol use, ANY further rehab visits, and any violent crime.

Second time, they're incarcerated for a decade or more.

Third time, life.

It's tough love, guys. It's the only thing that's worked. Consequences, no acceptance of their B$, and a willingness to have them face the mess they've made of their lives, and the people they've hurt.

What Must Be Done Dept.

     I was doubly affected by this story:

     The range is packed. Everyone got new guns for Christmas and wants to shoot them. There was about an hour wait for a stall. I sit down and start reading as I wait my turn. In a few minutes, a young girl sits down to wait in the chair next to mine. She’s by herself and appears to be in her early 20s. She’s the only black person in the room and one of the only women. She seems nervous as she fiddles with the gun case in her lap. She’s obviously uncomfortable.

     Uncomfortable people with guns in their hands shooting in the stall next to me isn’t what I like to see. I decide to talk to her. Keep in mind that no one at this range knows me or knows what I do for a living. That’s why I like shooting there; I have complete anonymity and can focus on my own training rather than teaching others. I rarely talk to anyone, but something told me that I needed to talk to this girl.

     “It’s a long wait, huh?” “What kind of gun did you bring to shoot?”

     She smiles and seems visibly relieved that someone was being nice to her. She says “It’s just a 9mm. Nothing special, but it’s the only thing I could afford.”

     We keep talking. I find out she’s a single mom with two kids. Her house has been broken into three times in the last two months. The last burglary attempt occurred while she was in the house with her kids. She has never shot a gun, but she recognized that she had a duty to protect her family. She went to a gun show and bought a Jimenez Arms JA-9. She asked all her male friends and family members to go to the range with her, but all of them turned her down.

     She tells me that she has a bad feeling that the robbers are coming back tonight to get the x-mas presents she bought for her kids. She doesn’t know anything about guns and doesn’t know anyone who can teach her. She’s signed up for a CCW class, but no one teaches classes on the week of Christmas and she can’t find an opening until January. The problem is that she thinks the robbers are coming TONIGHT. A January class isn’t going to help.

     Please, PLEASE read it all.

     I was affected first by the kindness and insight of the narrator. That sort of generosity with one’s time should be celebrated. It’s more than merely heartwarming to read such a tale; it’s what makes Americans – gun enthusiasts especially – unique among the peoples of the world. Had I been there, I’d have bought him the handgun of his choice.

     But the second stage kicked in immediately afterward: The scenario portrayed in the tale could not have happened in New York or several other, equally firearms-averse states. The young woman would have been left defenseless by New York State law.

     If there’s any sort of law more unjust than one that disarms only the law-abiding, I can’t imagine what it might be.

It’s time for Second Amendment Absolutism!

Not Ubiquitous Tech - Appropriate Tech

Too many schools fall into that trap of 1:1 computing. The idea is every student needs to have a laptop/tablet, or there will arise a "digital divide" between the rich and the poor.

To this end, schools cooperate with Apple, Google, and Microsoft to bring in technology that is linked to those products. A captive audience, that will provide - at little cost - a ton of info on the browsing habits, interests, academic success, and socio-economic status of thousands of young people. That data collection is embedded into the framework of the "gift" or purchase. The schools get the tech at a discount.

The real cost is to give tech companies access to your kids.

That access also helps the software/hardware companies to teach - seamlessly embedded into the curriculum - kids how to use their products. In effect, paying the tech companies to let them hook your kids into use of their products - for life.

There are open-source or lower cost alternatives for Office Suite (LibreOffice), Google (DuckDuckGo), the OS (Linux), Chrome (Brave), and other applications. But, if the kids are first taught how to use the branded product, they will be less likely to change in the future.

The fact is, some classes will use computers very little, or only limited applications. For others, it's more essential.

In Social Studies, Math, or Languages, tech apps might be used, but having every student with their own device is simply not necessary. A shared laptop cart may well be sufficient to handle the limited needs of those classes.

For homework, a check-out system for laptops/computers to augment access for students without a home computer would be sufficient. Much of the work that is needed could be accomplished with a Smartphone. There is generally access (thanks to Obamaphones) in even the poorest households.

In Science is where the technology is needed - and, most of that is for the Physical Sciences. There are Biology and Earth Science applications, but most teachers don't use them. In the Physical Sciences, the data collection probe systems justify the technology purchase. Not necessarily a laptop for each student, but at least a classroom set.

I'm a big technology user. But, I've seen classrooms use technology simply as a replacement for paper and pencil activities. The downside of that is teachers spend an inordinate amount of time re-directing students off games, shopping for shoes (it's a FAR bigger thing than you would believe), or watching videos (yes, they are SUPPOSED to be blocked, but kids collaborate to get the work-arounds).

We should not be aiming for Ubiquitous Tech, but Appropriate Tech.

A Quick Thought For Christmas Day

     A question that was once posed about the Christian faith, posed seriously despite its seeming irreverence, runs thus:

     “If one day you were haled into court and compelled to face the charge of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?”

     Just now, here in the Land of the Kinda-Sorta Free, that’s not a realistic scenario, though there are other nations where such charges are laid against ordinary men and women, often with the possibility of execution as the stakes. But the question was meant in a non-legalistic way: i.e., to illuminate how we live.

     In a court proceeding that goes by evidence, no one could be convicted of Christianity on the basis of what he believes. That door is locked from the inside. The only relevant evidence would be the accused’s behavior. In other words: does the accused’s behavior comport with what Christians proclaim as the Christian way of living? And just what is that, anyway?

     Many persons are made uncomfortable by such a query, not because there’s any real ambiguity about the Christian way of life – the Nicene Creed, the Two Great Commandments, and the Ten Commandments of the Book of Exodus lay it out plainly – but because they aren’t quite sure what they believe it to be.

     Christmas Day commemorates the birth of Christianity’s Founder. That makes it an appropriate day on which to ask oneself: “What do I believe is the Christian way of life? What did Christ command? What did He forbid? And on what basis do I believe this?”

     Come to think of it, those aren’t bad questions to ask oneself on any day of the year. But on the Feast of the Nativity, they deserve special attention.

     MARGARET BRENNAN: You've been on a tweet storm this morning saying, President's decision to pull out of Syria and cut our troop presence in Afghanistan in half, you said "the entire foreign policy establishment of Washington, DC, who two years ago were swearing Trump was going to start multiple nuclear wars. Now they're mad because he is stopping two wars. How about you just admit you hate the President, love war and have been wrong for the last twenty years on every part of foreign policy?" Who are you referring to because the defense secretary and the top diplomat handling ISIS both resigned over these decisions?

     SENATOR RAND PAUL: You know, I think that we should look at some of the statements of the people who are advocating that we stay in Afghanistan forever and that we also stay now in Syria with no sort of determined end. General Mattis, even General Mattis said that there's no military solution to Syria, and he's also said there's no military solution to Afghanistan. How do you think our young soldiers feel? I have members of my family that are going over there soon, how do you think they feel being sent to Afghanistan when your generals are saying there's no military solution? So I think the burden is really on Mattis and others who want perpetual war to explain why if there is no military solution we're sending more troops....

     We've been there seventeen years. We think now we are going to take one more village and we'll get a better negotiated deal?... That was the strategy of Vietnam for years after year after year in Vietnam was to take one more village and we'll get a better negotiated deal. No, they waited us out and the Taliban are going to wait us out. They know we will eventually leave and leave we must. I mean I don't think we have enough money to be paying to build and rebuild and build and rebuild Afghanistan. The President is right and I think the people agree with him. Let's rebuild America. Let's spend that money here at home....

     I couldn’t have said it better – and I was once in favor of the interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq. It’s time for those of us who were so inclined to admit our mistakes.

     A Swedish theologist has publicly denounced Islamism. A couple of detractors have leaped on her act of considerable courage with comments to the effect of “It’s about BLEEP!ing time.” This is small minded told-you-so crap that decent persons should condemn. An awakening to and admission of one’s own errors is not to be derided!

     The Swedes are awakening to their danger. Many others remain asleep. Don’t pour contempt on the first flickering sparks of wisdom reborn.

Why No Wall?

     I found this today at Cold Fury:

     Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Republicans need to “abandon” border wall funding if they want the government to reopen, just less than 24 hours into the partial shutdown....

     The New York senator also said Democrats are “open to discussing any proposal as long as they do not include anything for the wall,” showing Democrats are not willing to compromise on border wall funding.

     It is painfully clear that the Democrats are terrified of the Wall, that they consider an open southern border to be indispensable to their electoral future, and that any “we support border security” talk they emit is pure blue smoke and mirrors. They do not want America’s borders secured. But there’s worse:

     A substantial number of Senatorial Republicans don’t want the Wall either. They’re using their Democrat colleagues as an excuse for why they can’t (meaning won’t) fund it. We need an explanation for this.

     One possibility is “follow the money:” that the big-money donors whose support for a Senate candidate is vital don’t want the Wall. Federal politicians are among the most expensive whores in the world, but many billionaires consider them a worthwhile investment.

     Another is “keeping the issue alive:” the border crisis provides a candidate something to tout at election time. It proved potent for Trump, so some Senators might hope to exploit it for their re-election...as long as they can pose as being pro-Wall while never actually delivering.

     A third is dislike for President Trump and contempt for those of us who voted for him. Given the number of supposed “Republicans” and “conservatives” who routinely denounce the president and hope for his downfall, surely that needs no further exploration.

     One thing is clear: Present trends and modi operandi continuing, we won’t have a secure southern border any time soon. Will that make anyone angry enough to actually do something? Maybe a few hundred thousand “Yellow Vest” marchers around the Capitol, for openers?

Pushing Back Against Media

One of the most useful things we can do, most of us already have - cut the cord, detach from the newspapers, get most of our information from trusted (not mainstream media) sources.

It was actions like the above that led pundits to describe bloggers as "those crazies sitting at their computers in their pajamas". Glenn Reynolds and others took that as a challenge, and started PJ Media. And, a whole lot of other people rose up, signed up on Blogger, and let fly.

Most of them quickly found other things to do. A relative few went on to some success. Some split off into videos, podcasts, and other media. And, some took advantage of the Indie Publishing Revolution.

And, then, there are the plodders, like myself. I had some successes - mentions in far more popular blogs - one time, a short mention in Curmudgeonly & Skeptical caused my account to lock up for a few hours.

Since then, I've been invited to join in on several group blogs and, recently, decided to write books. I finished one (needs revision), and am currently writing several more (yes, several - I never was too bright). Most recently, I decided that I needed to write the definitive Anti-Feminist book - and Feminine Manifesto was born. I have a link to possible chapter divisions here - feel free to make your own suggestions.

I expect to put up chapters as I complete them, and indie publish the compilation when it's done.

The point is, for too long, the average person has delegated the job of exercising his/her/whatever 1st Amendment rights to the Professionals. Only in blogging and indie publishing have the average person taken any action to assert those rights for himself/et al.

Just as delegating one's right to Bear Arms to cops, sheriffs, National Guard, and other military suddenly came to be seen as a Really Bad Idea under Obama, so trusting others with your 1st Amendments rights is something that is not in your best interest.

Even the limited use that most people exercise - posting on Facebook or Twitter - has been shown to be illusory. If you don't have control over the 'printing press', you ain't got Jack!

Be prepared to 'go to ground' - switch from Blogger or other media source, to - if necessary - samizdat publishing (literally, the hand-copied writing that Russian dissidents used to circulate their unapproved thoughts). While you can, get multiple email accounts, multiple blogging accounts, multiple media outlets.

They can TRY to stop us, but - if we are nimble and willing to fight - they won't be able to shut up down - or shut us up.

If we're reduced to scrawling on walls and sidewalks, well, that's what we'll do. the means of expression is not as important as the desire to express yourself.

What is an Outlaw Blogger?

An outlaw would be someone whose crimes are so great, that they have voluntarily placed themselves outside of the protection of the law - in other words, a person would not be prosecuted for killing them on sight.

The term developed during the early days of the Western frontier, when certain crimes, such as cattle-rustling - stealing a man's cattle - were the actions of these outlaws. In the western ranges, cattle were turned loose for long periods of time, during which they had to forage for themselves. Out on the open range, some of them would wander away from the rest of the herd.

Most people, finding another person's cattle in their herd, would let the lawful owner know about it, and arrange for the cattle to be returned. Rustlers, on the other hand, would take unattended cattle, often re-branding it to be able to claim it as theirs.

We, as Outlaw Bloggers, are declaring ourselves to identify with those people who the law will not protect. This is, perhaps, an exaggeration, but not by much - given the position of the Leftists, that un-authorized speech, writing, or thought will be punished.

I'm going to take on some responsibility for getting this blog back in action. I'm going to pledge to post 3 times a week, on some un-approved topic, from now until the end of 2019. Perhaps we can get this blog back on track, and lend our support to Unauthorized 1st Amendment Action.

Relaxing in Panera with Coffee

After getting my stiff and aging butt out early to get to 9 am mass, I decided to treat myself with some breakfast and coffee, at Panera. I try to visit at least once a month to get a full meal, as I so often use/abuse their wifi privilege when I want to write, but am going stir-crazy at home.

I found some interesting things online - Andrew Sullivan has a generally thoughtful piece about the replacement of religion with secular pursuits, and why it so often leads to Cultic Politics.

I do have to question his conflation of Trump supporters with blind cult-followers. Most of Trump's supporters do see his faults - and they are many - but, simply prefer a President with faults who doesn't hate everything about America, to the many politicians whose followers insist they have no faults - and don't consider hatred for America, capitalism, and the Constitution to be faults.

Sullivan has also written about the Opioid Crisis, and its relationship to spiritual emptiness. The only known means to break the addiction was pioneered by a man influenced by the English Spiritual Awakening that coalesced in the Oxford Group. The Oxford met in house parties, and developed spiritual practices that heavily influenced Bill W. in developing AA.

To be spiritually reborn, the Oxford Group advocated four practices set out below:^[9]:9

1. The sharing of our sins and temptations with another Christian.
2. Surrender our life past, present and future, into God's keeping and direction.
3. Restitution to all whom we have wronged directly or indirectly.
4. Listening for God's guidance, and carrying it out.

 Compare Nike's treatment of Kaepernick to that of Turkish player for the NY Nicks - Eres Kanter. Because Kanter opposed Ergodan, Turkey has threatened to close access to any company that gives Kanter a contract.

Dropping in After a LONG Time Away

To be fair, I've been working on my book (started NaNoWriMo, but bailed after 1-1/2 weeks), getting in the sub teacher hours to make a qualifying Social Security year, clearing up the house and getting rid of paper, yadda yadda...

I've mostly blogged on Liberty's Torch and The Declination. That, and just life, has kept me away. I'm even down on reading other blogs - it would seem I'm winnowing down to the absolutely essential stuff, for now.

Part of it is that, finally, after a long time worrying about the state of the country, I'm a little calmer. The Donald is NOT perfect - not by a long shot - but, for the first time in a long time, I think we've got someone in the Oval Office that has the country's best interests at heart.

But, the book - about 1/2 way through it, and I'm blazing away at a pace that will have me finishing before March (cross your fingers - every time I make those kind of plans, something ghastly happens). So, in my rare downtime, I've been lurking around Mad Genius Club and According to Hoyt, among others. Even when goofing off, I'm attempting to learn more about the business of writing.

And, in the process I found this - on Writing on the Go. That's something I actually know quite a lot about, as my peripatetic ways have taught me.

I live out of two totes - one for personal essentials - driver's license, money, debit cards, planner (yes, I'm old school about that), cosmetics, brush, etc.

The other is packed with essentials:

• Macbook - the 11" model - very compact and slim, and, most important - lightweight
• Notebook - composition style, quad ruled
• Index cards, held together with a binder clip
• Extra binder clips - handy for all kinds of things
• Ipad - the laptop is for writing (Scrivener). The Ipad is for web browsing, notes (OneNote), and email.
• Handheld voice recorder - handy in the car or when I'm on the move.
• Pencil Case - # 9 mechanical pencils, various pens and highlighters in multiple colors, extra # 9 lead.
• Sticky notes
• Gallon-sized ziplock (freezer weight) - used to corral various cords, plugs, USBs, and tech gadgetry
